RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's UN representative, Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, renewed the Kingdom's call for a ceasefire in Gaza during an emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly focused on Palestine.
The session discussed two key resolutions: one supporting the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) and another urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Ambassador Al-Wasil criticized the misuse of veto power and the unfair enforcement of international law, saying these actions have worsened the violence in Gaza, fueled what he called a war of genocide, and escalated Israeli attacks.

Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, didn't hold back during the UN General Assembly session. He welcomed the ceasefire in Lebanon but made it crystal clear that he wasn't impressed with Israel's repeated violations of the agreement, calling them out for breaking the rules like a serial red-light runner.
He also doubled down on the importance of UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, slamming Israeli attempts to sabotage its work with targeted legislation and sneaky moves to undermine its mandate.
Switching gears to Saudi Arabia's stance, Al-Wasil gave an impassioned reminder of the Kingdom's unwavering support for the Palestinian people, championing the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and international resolutions as the way forward.
In a call to action, he urged global leaders to show up at the high-level international conference on the Palestinian issue, which Saudi Arabia and France plan to co-chair in June in New York-hinting that attendance isn't optional if peace is on anyone's agenda.
But wait, there's more. Al-Wasil took a moment to roast Israel's actions in Syria, condemning its attacks on Syrian territories as destabilising and a blatant assault on sovereignty. He passionately reaffirmed the Arab and Syrian identity of the occupied Golan Heights, delivering a sharp rebuke to Israel's ongoing habit of thumbing its nose at international law.
When it came time to vote, Saudi Arabia wasn't sitting on the sidelines. The delegation threw its support behind both resolutions.
The resolution supporting UNRWA's mandate passed with 159 votes in favor, 9 against, and 11 abstentions, while the call for a ceasefire in Gaza also sailed through with 158 votes in favor, 9 against, and 13 abstentions.
To wrap things up, Al-Wasil drove home Saudi Arabia's commitment to peace, its condemnation of aggression, and its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, leaving no doubt about where the Kingdom
stands.
